The Story of Aldens Kennels
It at all started with pen pals; Al and I were pen pals during the Vietnam War. I was in high school and all my older brothers' friends were being drafted. I started a writing club of girls in school and in my neighborhood; we would send letters to any soldier needing letters from home. Our pictures and cover letters were posted in the rear where the mail came in and went out. Al got my letter, kind of second, or third hand from soldiers having orders to go home before they had a chance to write. Al was in 173rd Air Borne Brigade, Long Range Recon Patrol (LRRP) we wrote daily during his tours which total 21 months. We meet on his 1st leave and got married on his 2nd. We finished his last 10 months at Ft. Bragg NC together, we were 18 and 19 years old, yes the odds were against us but here we are 40 yrs later, with two grown girls and four grandchildren, we are still happy and together.

Al was in an industrial accident in 1979 and had to change his career. Raised as a farm boy, dogs were a natural thing for him. In 1985 he builds the boarding and breeding kennel. We were known internationally for some of the first half dozen champion parti colored poms in the early 1990's, we showed and finished over 40 champions. I'm happy to say the breeders of today are showing many beautiful parti colored poms and they are now common, and not rare.

I graduated from Mid-West dog grooming school in 1986 it is closed now, but it was second only to New York's school of dog grooming. I taught night grooming classes at Lake County College for a few years. I couldn't groom any more due to dual rotor cuff surgeries. So we built a 6,000 sq. ft. training hall for dog events.

We retired from breeding poms, sold out our stock to the top breeder in the country, and to foreign breeders, and remodeled the kennel for boarding and training. Our specialty is the best care personally possible for our overnight clients on vacation, we offer nature walks, play time, TV in the observation room, modern, beautiful, and comfortable accommodations, and the very best in training, for the pet, and the competitive dog owners.
